| | 'You and Me' Vega4 | ] | I know this will come off as being pretty wishy washy and im not really expetcing any comments-but this seems as good a place as any to write down what im thinking at the moment.
Though i have to admit that the last two years or so have been pretty trying-mainly outside of school but also related-i can honestly say that i did the best that i could whilst going through them-i have no regrets, and that realisation has made me all the more happy to be where i am in life. Everything is so much clearer-now i realise that i dont need to feel intimidated by the world around me-if i dont understand something i shouldt assume that just because i dont know whats going on it doesnt mean that i am automatically wrong about it. Even in my naivety, no one should think badly of me, and if they would, then so what? I really dont care anymore-i guarantee you that i have my own positive attributes, and worrying about how other perceive me is such a waste of time.
For those of you that have already blossomed into this understanding then thats excellent, i suppose it just took a little longer for me to get the first taste of what life is actually like- sometimes i am not grateful for my sheltered upbringing, yet it has made these years, and the many decades(hopefully) that follow, all the more satisfying. (Ok so if in the next few years i manage to screw over my prospects and end up crying on your shoulder-ill thank you not to mention my arrogance!)
So i am so looking forward to coming home-i want to see all the people that i love and i have every intention of being on the cuttiing edge of doing absolutely fuck all. I want to make fun of customers and gossip about cute boys and generally piss about. I want to go see my favourite bands and spend time with the new (formula one obsessed) me that ive grown to quite like. I want to spend time in actual sun (hoorah!) and revel in my difference when people ask me where im from. Oh joy-you better be available or i munna come and rape you -laaaaaaacy |

| | "flux" bloc party | ] | hello wider world than st andrews. How are you? i'm fine thanks. :D
So work is pretty much killing me. veeeeeery slowly. I have written two essays already. And i have one due on friday and another on monday. And these are ten page essays, and one of them is on economcs which i know nothing about. And i have a presentation tommorow. I had a test today on economics maths, which was four questions of crap. I think i passed though. Stupid homogenous functions. psh. On the plus side i'm better at maths than i thought i was! I was keeping up with the best students in my module, and there are like 200 in that class! I was proud.
I'm doing better academically this year than i was last year, so i hope this continues. I dont know what to do. I'm pretty sure i will be dropping economics cuz i just dont enjoy it even though its my best subject. maybe it's because i am taking more credits than i should be this semester? I dunno. So yeah, it has been teh dumped. Or it soon will be. But then again do i do my degree in international relations? or modern history? or both? I am leaning towards just doing international relations, cuz it's really interesting, and i think i want to work somewhere that's not just sitting at a desk. I dunno if i would be qualified for that. No idea.
Ok question... employers... do they really care what degree you have or is it really the fact that you have a degree and you can use the skills oyu acquired whilst getting that degree to your work? Maybe its different in the UK. I'm doing International relations. I've decided. Right then i just decided MY ENTIRE FUTURE .ugggh.
After the workiness of this week though i hope to be free! THEY CANNAE TAK MAH FREEDUM! We're going to see a musical at the edinburgh playhouse soon and going out. Should be good fun. And christmas shopping. And then i think i might be going to spain after exams....too bad i dont speak spanish. That woould come in usefull.
But i can;t wait to see yous guys. I want to go play pool and watch movies and drive and go into the city and stalk you all and then pop out at you at intrvals from partially concealed areas around your house(s). So i'm asking you all out on dates. ALL OF YOU. that's right.
And i dont wanna work this christmas. I dont think that my boss wants me anyways. so i suppose i am indifferent. But i am also as broke as a very broke thing.
You guys rock my proverbial socks.
you lot will still be my friends right? :( |

| | "Boston" by Augustana | ] | I cant believe i am almost home. All that stand between me and marin is 18 hours of traveling. It's so sad to see that the hall is giving out their leftover sweets and ice cream that they need to get rid of before we go away.
I cant believe it's almost over. my first year of university, the step that seemed to be so far away 3 months ago, never mind when i started high school. It seems like the ending of the adventure, everyone says that first year is the best, the one where you dont have to worry about much, except making it back to your bed each night. Luckily i managed to pass i think.
Although i miss everyone at home with all my heart, i cant imagine being away from people here for longer than a few days. he last 8 months have been nothing but a giant party, with bits of work in between, and when you are LIVING with other people, you get to know them very well. It's not fair that my friends here all live in the uk, and that they will be able to meet up over summer, go to sleep at each others houses, and spend time in scarborough's gay pubs. Which sounds banterous any way you look at it.
And i think i cant bear o be away from those who i love, and i dont know how i managed it leaving marin, when i have known you all for so much longer.
Aww, i munna go print out my bording pass now... |

*grumble* i'm ill.
... and i have an essay due tomorrow. eeew. And for some reason i have lost the ability to type! I am just poking my computer with a book at the moment. It's only though my sheer awesomeness tha ti am hitting the right letters. And you think i am joking.
MY HEAD HURTS!
MAKE IT GO AWAY!
What am i going to do this summer? I mean obviously seeing everyone will be the epitome of greatness, but what abou tmy friends here? I will miss them so much, we have been living in the same house for night on 8 months, and we have done so much, we have mourned together, been clinically depressed together, gotten up to activities of questionable legality, stalked justin timberlake, gone swimming in water that technically should be frozen, breathed nothing but methane, watched each other get pulled (and stepping in when appropriate), and stuck up for each other, not to mention shuffling beds around when one of us is being sexiled. First year has been so much fun, little did i know that when we e tthe headmaster on the first day and he said that these years are the best of your life, and you have just met your friends for life, little did i know how right he was. Berk.
I already have the best friends in the world at home, who i need to hear more from, but i want to see them all the time, i dont want things to change over summer, which i think they must, logic dictates.
I hope my friends at home havent's changed. And i know that i haven't changed, but i know i am not the same. Dude, i sound so emo..
OH THE PAIN...CRYING MY CUTS AWAY, CUTTING MY TEARS AWAY......*cries*
So that's about it homies. I miss you all so much, and i hope against hope that you still want to see me, silly girl that i am. I have so much to tell you, and i promise it wont be those lameo stories where you have no idea what;s going on.
I am so looking forward to danielle's party!
Btw, i am going to the biggest ball in western europe in a few days time! WOO!

Yo homies
So i'm supposed to be working, i have LA MONTANA of working ahead of me, but i should manage. Psh, work teh suxzors. Anyhoo, not much going on, I WENT SUNBATHING YESTERDAY IN SCOTLAND! And i only have one class today, so i am suposed to be spending the rest of the day revising for my economics test tomorrow. Ho hum.
Uh, it;s my room mate's birthday today woo! Everyone is older than me! WAAAAAAAAAAAh, feel so left out.
I was looking through lacy's photos on facebook and i came across the one of her wearing my sunglasses, which happened to be sitting right next to me( IT WAS THAT SUNNY TODAY) so i put them on, and tried to be lacy. I failed abysmally, but tis ok, cuz i know i will be seeing her soon anyways.
Apparently i am going rving in oregon this summer, which is weird, because i would never have expected tha of my parents. I dont particularly like oregon(sorry lacy) and i HATE rv's. But i am determined to be grateful, because i havent seen my parents in FORAGES and they are paying for me to go where i really wanted to. Aww, parents are alright sometimes :)
So yeah, spent the holiday in Newbury, Oxford, and St john's town of dalry. All were awesome, i met all of chris' friends in oxford, they are quite epic, and i think i may have freaked some of them out a bit. All well. Dalry was gorgeous, it only has about 300 people in it but it was fabulous weather, and all of the lambs had just been born, which was wonderful to see. Needless to say i didnt get much work done this holiday. Shaaaaaaaammmme.
Missing you all like a fat kid misses MARIN FLAVOURED cake. Can we please go camping when i come back? Otherwise i percieve quite a dull summer, besides being with you lot.
OH and chris might be coming over in the summer to visit! I dunno why he suddenly got over his irrational hatred of america..hmm suspicious... Anyways, just thought you should know..

Ok, life.
When i got back and took my exams, which passed thankfully, phew, but before that i had a week revision period which was really weird because i didnt leave hall for almost a week and i felt really depressed fro one reason or another and didnt feel much like doing anything, but i was still revising for 5 or more hours a day, which sucked balls. But after exams i had the prospect of 2 weeks break with my friends so i had something to sustain me at least.
Exams ended, and that weekend we were off for brussels in belgium, whcih was great fun.Everone was amazed that i had a british passport. We ended up staying in a youth hostel in an area that we affectionately termed "turkey" because It was full of turkish immigrants who didnt speak french, much less english, and it was a bit dodgy. The first night we went out sightseeing at night which was interesting and we went back and went to bed. I couldnt sleep that night because it was swelteringly hot, and someone(on eof the other 7 girls in the room) was snoring really loudly. And then there were calls for prayers at the local mosque right across the road at 5 am or some ungodly hour. (haha ungodly, just joking) But the next day we went to go see the european parliament, which apparently has a "horse shaped" debating chamber, oh we giggled.
The next day we went to Brugges and i gave up a day of seeing waterloo, which would have made my life complete, but i went with my group within a group of friends to go see where one of them grew up. It was so beautiful and completely romantic and they spoke dutch there as opposed to french in brussels. We ended up staying in a really nice hostel and we had the most delicious food i think i may have ever had, even if it was 20 euros. Lots of chips and wonderful buildings, the canals were spectacular! We ended up finishing our trip seeing the headquarters of the archers ofsaint atienne, which have been around since the 13th century. My friend who was showing us around brugges, had an uncle who phoned up and had us let in which was an honour because it doesnt happen very often. And then it snowed, and then we had to leave which was sad, becuase brugges was one of the most lovely cities i have ever visited, and the waffles/chocolate were wonderful.
In short, dont go to brussels, it is big and a bit rank, and their hostels steal money off you. Go to brugges, it;s lovely.
And then i went to orkney with my roommate clare, my friend alice, and my friends sean and james. Sean just happens to be clare's boyfriend. Sean lives in orkney which is a little island to the north of scotland. We bussed up to Aberdeen the day afte ri got back from belgium, and took the boat to kirkwall on the island. 5 hours on a VERY choppy boat, but it was really fun, clare and lice and i had made t shirts for the trip. It is absolutely gorgeous there, there are no tress, but it was fantastic to see so much lovely scenery and have some real cooking, sean's mum is a great cook. We saw skara brae, on of the oldest prehistoric villages in europe. And the standing stones, which is like a mini version of stonehenge. It was so much fun, and we went clubbing and to all the pubs, and made fun of sean for being from a small island.
We came back and still had a week to go so we just hung about. So much fun, and somehow i found someone who doesnt think i am TOO insane. His name is chris, he's from oxford, and he's lovely. Something tells me that oyu would all like him very much.
Certain events during this semester : Mr. and Mrs. Atholl (nickname for my hall)
Got a flat for next year! Woo! We dont have to live in a cardboard box!
Playing lots and lots of card games, especially hearts
That's it really erm, school's more interesting this semester, and Internatioanl relations is becoming a little more tolerable, we get SPY STORIES! SCORE!
We went to go see the fray yesterday at the edinburgh corn exchange who were opening for a british band called the feeling, who rock my socks. I have so many clips, it was quite a memorable night. The girls made shirts for that as well, oh it was so fun. I have not yet recovered.
Easter break is coming up in a month, so i will be going to see my grandparents in the (relative) south of england for a bit, and they live close to oxford so i will be staying at chris' house for a few days, where we might go see my friend kate in malvern, and my other friend in scarborough. Then i will be going to see my lovely room mate clare in dumfries and we'll go back up to st andrews together.
Oh gosh, that took a while to type. I hope that suffices. I'm off to play hearts! Even though i have an essay due next week. WOO!
Missing you all so much, i think about you everyday.

| | "look after you" by the fray | ] | HIYA ALL YALL! Sorry i havent been keeping record of all of the events recently, but it think it just deepends the dramatic effect when i have tons of stories to tell you! And there is always the chance that if i do post a story, it will be taken the wrong way. Apparently now everyone thinks i am a party fiend? Not true. Yesterday we stayed in, and it was a saturday night. This wouldnt be extraordinary by itself, but the thing is that this seems to be a patter; we stay in almost every saturday night! We are such losers.
But here are a few things that happened this week:
Just got back from reading week, which is a week off where we are supposed to read. Most people dont do any work, but me, continuing in my loser theme, actually studied for economics. Hmm. I wonder if i could be a professional loser?
So i went to go see my grandparents, who are lovely if i do say so myself. We went to the biggest bonfire i have ever seen in my life for bonfire night, complete with spectactular fireworks! And the next day i helped out at oxfam in newbury, which is a branch in a chain of charity shops where my grandmother volunteers. Lots of old men *shudder* though i cant day that i am surprised. I got a new coat! Which makes me look like a moonman, i think we will need it though, it's getting really cold. Went on a lot of walks, around some ruined castles, which was very interesting. Went to visit oxford the other day, which was gorgeous i must say, but by the end i was missing st andrews. That school is way too snobby, though they do have quite a few museums, one was doing an exhibition on leonardo da vinci.
Flew home yesterday(rememberance day) , when i was in heathrow, it was 11 o clock so the entire airport stopped and stood silent for two minutes. Which was odd to say the least, but very moving.
Got back to st andrews yesterday, which was fabuous.
SO PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MARIN!!!?? I KNOW NOTHING! I MISS SEES! I MISS CTF! I WANT TO KNOW WHAT "SLUT IT UP" MEANS! AND MOST IMPORTANTLY I MISS YOU LOT!
So lacy, please give me your address again. I have something of a rectangular nature to send you.

| | "Dancing Queen" By Abba | ] | Well i am wrapping up yet another week in st andyroos. I am having a lot of fun, i can assure you. For instance: Last night, on a THURSDAY, we went out to this castle in Cupar (Ferni Castle- it wasn't a REAL castle, just the remains of the watchtower or something) as part of our hall tradition; We all get dressed up like princesses and princes and have a dance party with PROPER music, none of this crap in California. We subsequently pull down the chandelier and collapse the tables by standing on them. When they play " You've lost that loving feeling" from Top Gun, all the boys get down on their knees and start serenading all the girls.
My friends and i went exploring in the rest of the castle even though i'm sure we werent meant to. Well come on, they never SPECIFICALLY SAID that we couldnt go up. So we were creeping through these dark rooms with giant suits of armour and no light. There were so many staircases! Some people chickened out, so in the end it was me, alice and this guy named Nick, and we found this bar far removed from the party we had just left. So we did what any kids would do when faced with a completely unattended bar, we stole drinks. Which was hilarious, because other peole tried doing it later and they got caught. So after a copious amount of dancing we left in the two double decker buses that we came in, but not before Clare and I had our feet stepped on by drunk people with stilletto heels. Clare got the worst of it by far, and she is sporting a second ankle on her right foot today as a result. I had someone step on my toe and get her heel stuck in my shoe; she tried to drag me accross the dance floor for a while. I eventually got free though, So not too bad.
The funnies thing about this whole episode is that this happens every year, and the Castle keeps letting us back! I think it must be because we pay them a lot of money for everything. All in all a very fun experience.
Tonight is the bop, but i dont know if we will be going if we are all slightly injured. I haven;t done anything today, i only had 10 minutes of classes today, because all i had to do was meet my tutor for Modern History.
Just went to have ice cream, which has been my one craving while here. It was goood.
That's it, I'm having a blast, I HOPE YOU ARE TOO!
Lot's of lurvo |

So i am at University. May i just say that it KICKS ARSE. It really does. For several good reasons, explained here in bullet note form:
-My room mate is uber neato. Not only is she great fun, but she spells her name Clare, like with no "i". She was named after a poet. Isn't that cool?
-Tresure hunts and three armed pub crawls.
-Fire Alarms
-RCIARD HAMMOND IS GONG TO RECOVER
-the Notorious nine
-"Rob"
-"The blonde one"
-Scumdee
-Tescoes and woolies
-The robes that smell like christmas
-Graeme and his boyfriend
-Jeff
-my PINK mobile
-spanish accents, a la Clare
-Dr. Love. Oh god...
-Trying to boil eggs in a kettle
-Stealing stationary vespas
-8 people Singing "somewhere else" under a HUGE blanket
-SWIMMING IN THE NORTH SEA
-JOHN BURNETT!
So yeah, that's my lifo. I miss you all a lot. Fresher's week is so much fun. |
